Protests take place on Wall St. and Protests are spreading to the point where the media can't ignore them anymore!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to time constraints I'm not able to provide as many timely updates on the protests. To get real time updates on the protests please visit: http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution (Including live video and text updates from the protests)

UPDATE for 2011: New protests have started on September 17, 2011 on Wall St. with hundreds of protesters clamoring for economic justice and expressing their anger at the economic system and high unemployment. These protests are titled "Occupy Wall St.". The protests continue and yet the coverage on main stream media is somewhat scant....just like in 2008 when this article was first written. To be fair, some of the major media did report the story but the amount of coverage seems to be disproportionately slight given the severity of the recession and the angst of the protesters. See new videos below!

Update Sept. 30: Interviews with Chelsea Elliot on RT.com and Youtube. See videos below. Why doesn't the U.S. media interview Ms. Elliot? Occupy Wall St. continues with large crowds showing up Sept. 30. See videos below.

Update Oct. 1: Protests begin in Boston. See video below. Protests (organized by Right to The City Alliance) began at Bank of America in Boston on Sept. 29, where some 3000 demonstrators showed up. There are reports of 21 arrests. Occupy Boston protests have also begun.

Update Oct. 2: About 700 protesters were arrested after several thousand protesters swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge on Oct. 1 resulting in a temporary. See article from UK Guardian below and videos below. FINALLY SOME MAINSTREAM COVERAGE as it looks like ABC News has reported it. See article below.

Update Oct. 10: Occupy Wall St. goes mainstream! It's spreading to various cities in the U.S. in addition to New York City, including Washington D.C., Houston, Des Moines, Los Angeles and others. Also, the mainstream media has been providing more and more coverage as the crowds appear to be getting too big to ignore. For example, CNBC business news reported on the growing protests and indicated that the Occupy Wall St. movement "is not slowing down". See link in the NEWS LINKS section (scroll down past the videos).

Update Oct. 11: Blogger Christopher Greene from Phoenix, AZ talks to RT News about the spreading 'Occupy Wall St." protests (video below), the reasons for the protests and the possibility of civil unrest and violence. Protests are spreading to major metropolitan areas across the U.S. Persistently high unemployment, the lingering housing collapse, excessive public and private debt and layoffs are more reminiscent of a economic depression than a recession. The total number of workers that are underemployed or whose benefits have run out (U-6 unemployment figures run around 17% or so) appears to provide impetus for the growth of the protest movement which shows no signs of abating. Also see video below on 'Occupy LA' for video from Los Angeles protests at Bank of America.

Update Oct. 25, 2011: Sgt. Shamar Thomas, USMC confronts members of the NYPD about how the cops have been treating protesters. He tells the police that if they want to fight, "they should go to Iraq and Afghanistan". Sgt. Thomas who spent 14 months in Iraq lashed out at NYPD after he apparently witnessed some brutal treatment of Occupy Wall St. protesters in New York City. See video from RT below.

Original Article from 2008 (protests on Wall St. against bank bail out):

Hundreds of protestors demonstrated agains the proposed $700 Billion bail out plan for the finance and banking industry, yet the national news media in America didn't even report it! Why not? It seems strange that this barely generated a gander from the big news outlets like ABC, CNN, CBS, NBC etc. all of whom have a presence in New York City. Despite having such a large protest event occurring in their backyard, the major news media chose not to tell the American people about it. I had to stumble upon this on the internet to find out about it. That's really indicative of the pathetic state of affairs in the U.S. media today.

Anyway, in case you haven't seen it, I have collected a bunch of video from the protests on Wall Street (Sept. 25) and posted them below. Have a look at what the news media DIDN'T show you! Warning: some of the protest videos contain profanity. The importance of the us wars can not be underestimated, but let the protest not be aimed at violence coz america belongs to all! But make useful suggestions to help the economy! Do not let d foes laugh at d us

Wall street and all connected to countries down fall, should pay to the people negetively effected, reperations for their losses, while fixing the problems that got us into this mess. This should be the protesters main point.

Hooray for the Protestors!! I remember the protests during the 60s - They made a difference. Real change starts with the young!! I applaud their Spirit. Eventual controlled chaos and revolution will turn the US around. Democracy is of the People, for the People, by the People.

I heard that news stations weren't covering this . The fact that they wouldn't shows how much control the rich have over our country. Its rediculous. my mom pays taxes twice as high as some celebs and top tier citizens and it makes us go broke. We were middle class before Bush. What the hell. to everyone protesting, thank you maybe you,ll be able to bring about a change so my generation can go to college.

Scaramousch 4 months ago

Go home. You look stupid. What is your point? What happens when you are ignored? America is turned off by this. They have seen how our country has been destroyed in the decades since the sixties by the self indulgent left's useful idiots. You have been mis-educated and have been duped by communist educaters. How sad to see wasted lives that could have held such promise.

@ Scaramousch: You must be rich, and not only rich but your mommmy and daddy must have given you all your money you silver-spooned ignoramus. To scoff at the passion of a people who work hard only to be taxed more, laid off, ignored and struggle as a result of all of this, just shows that you my dear must be locked away somewhere in the white picket fenced land of suburbia. I applaud them.

The bottom line is where you have to hit these financial entities. Stop shopping at corporate stores and restaurants and groceries... Pull your money out of the big banks and put it in smaller banks. Your money is your vote, so cripple them! I applaud the protests, but take it to another level.

Cindy 4 months ago

Hooray I am so thankful this is happening. It's about time. It is time for the people to take control of our country again. Keep the faith. Make wall street pay for their abuses and inhumanity. Power to the people!

of the movement will fail

Perhaps it might be more appropiate if the Wall Street protesters directed their attention to the Federal Reserve. An excellent article by Leigh Harkness 'Growth of Debt and Loss of Income in America' at http://www.buoyanteconomies.com/DebtIncome.htm offers great insight in this regard. Leigh's page provides ample evidence as to the Fed's hand in the creation and fostering of the environment that created economic disaster that is plagueing not only America but much of the world.

i might be more sympathetic to these marches were i to see regualr americans in this crowd. all i see are rich spolied brats with the time to protest. while their parents are out busting their asses to pay for their expensive educations they spit in their faces and try to bring down the system. people, your argument is not just the fed or wall street but with obama and the communists he surrounds himself with. you protest where there will be no consequences for your actions. you get a slap on the wrist and are sent on your way. try pulling this crap in front of the white house and they will bury you under the treads of an m-1 tank. throw all the bums out of office or you will just get more of the same. i admire your tenacity but you are attacking only a symptom, the lap dogs who obey orders, not the architects behind the scene. i'm surprised most of you haven't figured out yet that finicial dealings don't require brick and mortar locations to do busines anymore. when in comes to syaging a proper protest even the french have more balls.

I completely applaud what you guys are doing on Wall Street. I really wish I could be there with you. I love how the politicians try to say that if you worked hard you could be rich too. They became rich by taking handouts, or being at the right place at the right time. We need a politician who will stand up for the people, just as you folks are doing, and demand a more equal society. We do not need more handouts from the government, we need more businesses to stop shipping their jobs overseas so more Americans can find work. George Washington even saw this day coming and said so in his farewell address when he left office. Political parties don't care about Americans, they care about whatever business will line their pockets with the most money. The bank bailout was a joke. We should have let them fail. Nothing in this country is too big to fail. We as Americans can always find a way to pick up the slack. That is what makes this country so great. We live in a free market, and it seems to me that the very politicians who complain that the welfare system in this country is too generous, just lent out a very large sum of money to the banking industry. Did they deserve it? I think not, but you did it anyway. Keep doing what you guys are doing, it is an incredible thing. For those of us that can't be there, you are our voice and we are behind you 100%.

The Anti Wall Street demonstrations in New York against corporate influence in US policies, starting Sep 17 are rather late to stop US in fighting wars, occupation of foreign lands and creating disorder in most parts of the world. The Wall Street establishment used enormous US power during the last over one hundred years in waging wars to make money. Just look at the last ten years. After falling of the Towers in New York on 09 Sep 2001, who has earned money from almost five fold increase of the oil prices in the last decade? Considering that the oil is being used all over the world all the time, the profit being earned is beyond calculations. Having exploited the US strength to the hilt, the Wall Street establishment have already secured access into China and India, the countries having largest concentration of human population. For them there is unlimited scope of making more money in these countries without the need of depending on the US any more.

At this time the US armed forces personnel, the tools to kill people and cause extensive damage in target countries, are deployed all over the world. Their rotation plans does not allow them to live with their families resulting in broken marriages and their children deprived of normal upbringing. The New York demonstrators can add another placard titled ‘Bring Our Soldiers Back’ with the existing banners. That may add some weight to their demands.

I hear the passion of these protestors and it sounds more and more like communism. Who started these protests? Who arranged them? Seems like they had a good point - no more bailouts. But what are they really protesting now? The "voice" has changed.

This is a democracy, when is about the truble in some other country , CNN - BBC are first to report, When is in U.S then all of them are gone and they are not present, this is how US democracy really work. It has never being democracy, this is just stories for kids. Now US citizens can se that actual US goverment and they madia are not democratic at all.

I'm a believer in higher pay for harder work. Like if you work your behind off and risk everything, that ought to be worth about $100k a year or so, fine. But NOBODY does anything sooooo impartant that they need the well over $300,000/yr. that the 1%ers START at. And certainly not the billions per yr that the upper echelons of the 1%ers make. Furthermore there are a GREAT many people who work their behind off just as hard as these millionaires at multiple jobs just to barely be able to pay the neccessary bills. Where is the justice for these hard working people? Guess they just don't have the right connection. Can anyone really find it in their heart to say that is fair? It's pretty cold hearted and it needs to stop. GO OWS. Keep the faith.

First off for those who want to say that corporation have control over the news.. The fact is that the liberal govenment is who controls the news. Second to the author of this blog, why isn't there any information on the infighting going on with the occupiers, or the fact that there is no clear message. Protests are an organized venture not a mob mentality such is shown by the occupiers. They really do need to get organized and focused in order to get their point across. Also, they might do better if they weren't using everything that big corporations provide, like the camcorders, cell pohones, iPods, cameras, coffee, designer clothing, fast food etc etc etc. Fighting within your ranks because someone finally decides to take charge and give direction? Gee now you are looking like politicians.

Robert Cusumano 3 months ago

I have read all the comments before me and I'll be the first to admit my spelling or grammar is imperfect, but what I have read of this protest doesn't make sense. If you look at history, wall street was established by good ole boys to control wealth among themselves, not for the good of our country, but for profit. We the people were protected by our government against these greedy people. Then guess what happened? These greedy and smart people found a way to manipulate the government to serve them instead of we the people. I think most all working class people would agree that our representatives don't really represent us anymore. In the sixties we naively hoped, in the seventies and eighties we assimilated with the greed and in the nineties we gave up or were manipulated by our government. So what I don't understand is why are we not protesting our government in its present form with a show of no confidence.I and I believe most of the country would be behind this. We don't need a republican or democratic party, we need an American party. Then the government allowed us the independent party! Now think, independent smacks of the zealots, not to be taken serious. We need one term candidates, no more career politicians, no more analysts that are never held accountable. If I did the job our congress and senate did, I would be unemployable. Shake the tree, don't play in the leaves!

We have Obama to thank for this mess. He started opening up his big mouth about taxing the rich and the evil corporations. This incited the people to riot. This is the act of a desperate politician trying to maintain his power. He is using these people to distract us from his failed policies and lousy record. Does all of this economic strife and protesting look like a "CHANGE" for the better that Obama promised. He lied to us all just like a typical politician and now he is using class warfare to distract the people from his failed presidency. Once again the loyal foolish Democrats follow the lead of their corrupt leader just like a flock of lemmings. The definition of a lemming for those democrats who have failed their English classes. "A member of a crowd with no originality or voice of his own. One who speaks or repeats only what he has been told."

That is by definition a democrat who in this case are the protesters.

ROBERT CUSUMANO 3 months ago

well common sense ,you may be right about obamas failings . And corporations are never corrupt or are they. who sent all the jobs elsewhere in order to get cheaper labor costs. That was the nail in this countries coffin. And we all know how good the Republicans are, o wait was'nt Bush a republican {weapon of mass destruction] he sucked too! Protesting is a right of the people until the politicians can figure a way to screw us out of that too.

The real reason they don't want to abandon Afghanistan is, because of the Exxon Mobile's pipeline pumping oil from Afghanistan. George Bush Jr. brags he went to Iraq for the oil, to show off to his affluent friends. So instead of half the national deficit, we have it double, they want to build permanent bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, so big oil, and the Republican's can get rich. So why do they want to make Afghanistan a permanent duty station so they can protect the interest's of big oil and the pipeline, before they started drilling and pumping oil out of Afghanistan, the country was considered the largest untapped oil resource in the world. They don't talk much about the pipeline now because the Billionaire's and corporations have silence everyone. I don't vote and support neither party, nor will I be a registered voter, ever, because I never register to vote. George Bush Jr and the Republican party wanted to control the oil infrastructure of Iraq, and Afghanistan to enrich themselves, Billions traded for the corporations, while America accumulated Trillions in national debt, not such a good trade off, but it was for 1% of the population. The people of Afghanistan live simple lives as farmers and ranchers, living off of mountain goats, and sheep's, and simple crops, too stupid to realize what they have an abundant source of natural resources that they do not benefit from, while Hamid Karzai hordes over 100 Billion in secret accounts for himself. The people of Afghanistan use horses and donkeys, and pick up trucks, as their main weapons, while military contractor's keep building new weapon system's for themselves and get richer, America goes down hill in debt. China owns 11% of the national debt, and Japan owns 10% and they are over 200% over GDP in national debt. So who owns most of the national debt Private Security Firms profiting off the national debt of the U.S. They want to go to war with Iran that will cost the U.S. 90 Billion a year, instead of executing precision strikes. Like Iraq, they always have known, since they have too much oil, no economic sanction will work, and only by declaring a full scale war can they actually bring about change. The real reason they don't want to abandon Afghanistan is, because of the Exxon Mobile's pipeline pumping oil from Afghanistan.
